What do you believe is the purpose of a college education? I think the purpose of college education is to get an education that will give us skills that will help us for the future. College is the time to learn how to grow up and be an adult without throwing us into the real world. What does it mean to be educated? To me, being educated means knowing what to do in situations. It generally means being sophisticated; able to carry oneself in an important manner. I understand that there are different types of education for example street smarts. However, someone who is street smart knows how to carry himself in a manner that is needed to survive the streets. Just as a person who is educated on how to be a plumber would not know how to do the job that a doctor who is also educated is able to do and vise versa. What experiences have you had with education that led you to this belief? I think this because I am an educated person but I can’t do the same jobs, hold the same conversations, or act the same way as another educated person. Just as there are different ways of learning, there are different subjects to be learned.
TELL 2
Past: a clothespin holding a piece a paper to string
I always say that I grew up in an apple tree. My grandma and grandpa used to watch me and my older cousin, Julie, in the summer. My grandparents had fruit trees in their yard and one of them was an apple tree that planted for my mom. Julie and I and the neighbors down the farm would always play in the apple tree. We each had our own special seating spot and as you got older, you moved higher in the tree. Not only would we eat the apples the tree provided, but we would also pick the apples and other fruit and give each other make-overs with them. One day we got very creative and set up a mailing system in the tree. We each sat in our designated spots and strung string all around the tree that connected one spot to another. Then we each had paper and pencils and would write a note, clip it to the string using a clothespin and pull the string that circled to the next spot to pass it. I remember my family being impressed with what we did. This kept us busy for a day. I chose this memory because it brings me close with my cousin Julie and my grandparents. The day I did this, I was in elementary school and my cousin and 2 of the neighbors were 4 years older than me. This memory is an educational one because not only does it remind me of everything that I have learned from my grandparents and my cousin but it also got our creativity flowing and writing and reading skills working in a fun way.
Present: kayak
I have just started taking kayaking lessons through Quest, an outdoor club. I have been kayaking once before with my older cousin Sean. I chose this object because I am taking these lessons to get better at a skill that Sean, my uncle and younger cousins do as a sport. I can’t wait until the summer when Sean can teach me more skills and we can go out on a river together. I think that this can be a great experience and get me closer with Sean. I already think of him as my role model and I have learned a lot from him already like driving. The kayaking experience is teaching me a new skill that keeps me close with my family.
Future: music
Music is already a big part of my life and I want it to continue. I would love it if my children become band kids. I want to be a band parent and watch my child learn a new language because of it. To me, music is a different language, not everyone can read sheet music and understand what it means. I know that I am not great at playing trombone but it has led me to great experiences that I want my child to have. A child learns so much from their parents and it’s not always a sport or a second language. If my children chose to do a sport over a language I would still like to bond with them and be a soccer mom instead.

I think I want to link my TELL stories by making a comic book or a picture book of some sort. My theme is memories that represent family. My past is about my cousin and my grandparents, my present is for other cousins and my uncle, and my future is for my future children. I think a comic book or a picture book would be an interesting because it is something different but I think it is a good way for telling memories.
